I don't know about you but I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome of last's nights Academy Awards. Not only was the hand out of Oscars relatively acceptable, but the whole show in general was entertaining. I approve of Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin as hosts; hilarious. Thank you NPH for popping your head in and opening the show with your always appreciated song and dance! I'm going to touch base on a few main categories last night so please visit IMDB.com for the full listing of Oscar winners.
Lead Actress: Sandra Bullock
I've never not liked this women. People always gave her crap for the movies she was in but ever since Love Potion No. 9, I always dug her. She never stuck out in anyone's mind as an impeccable actress but she definitely will now after her stellar performance in The Blindside (she absolutely made that movie worth watching btw).
Lead Actor: Jeff Bridges
I look forward to seeing Crazy heart (never got around to seeing it). From the few clips I saw last night of it, it looks great. I'm pleased to see Jeff Bridges win this category. If Clooney would have won..."rigged" would have been my first thought.
Supporting Actress: Mo'Nique
All I can say is that she won it over Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick...two women who didn't blow me away at all to be honest. It's not that I don't like them, because I do, I just didn't think their performances were all that special in Up In the Air. I wish I had an opinion over Maggie Gyllenhaal's performance but if she was nominated, she must have done something right I guess. As far as Penelope Cruz goes... zzzzzzz.... Mo'Nique for Precious was the best bet.
Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz
Outstanding performance from him in Inglorious Bastards. I would have not be opposed to seeing Stanley Tucci for The Lovely Bones win. The character he played in that movie was not anything he's ever done before. It was sincerely impressive.
Director: Kathryn Bigelow
Winning for The Hurt Locker. First woman to win this award. Congrats!
Best Picture: The Hurt Locker
My money was riding on either: The Blindside, Avatar, The Hurt Locker, or Precious. It would have been so awesome to see District 9 win but I knew it wasn't going to unfortunately.
Those are the main categories that I was looking forward to. I think all the winners were pretty much well deserved.
Did anyone else notice that Farrah Fawcett wasn't mentioned in the montage of fallen stars??? But ok, let's mention Micheal Jackson onnneee moreee timmme. Rude. Rude. Rude.
The John Hughes tribute was great. I got chills from it actually. That man was brilliant in my eyes. Tear-jerking moment when his Brat Pack and other stars came out of the woodwork to say a little something about their time working with him. Loved it!
...oh and Macaulay Culkin is still 9 years old.

Hahaha you got me with your Macouley Culkin comment. He could seriously make Richie Rich 2 tomorrow and still play a 12-year-old who just wants to play baseball with his friends. The only thing I disagree with you on is Mo'Nique. I thought she did a really good job for sure and I'm fine with the fact that she won, but I thought Anna Kendrick was really eccentric and played all the emotions of her role really well. Also, loved Sandra Bullock's acceptance speech, as well as Michael Giachinno (Up score, perfect), and Jeff Bridges who basically accepted his award as the Dude. You should def see Crazy Heart. It's really great and the music is pretty wonderful. I see why it didn't get a Best Picture nom, but it still really great. The "holy crap this dude is the man" award should go to Christoph Waltz. during his speech I almost cried because I could just see how much it meant to him to be accepted into Hollywood and how much he truly loves his craft. That man needs to make more movies. Loved the show all around, great set.
ReplyDeleteThoroughly enjoyed the Academy Awards and was very well pleased with the outcome.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite thrilled for Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock's winnings. It was their first time winning an oscar and it was nice for them to finally get some recognition from the academy for all their work and achievements over the years.
Congrats for Kathryn Bigelow for holding it down for the X-chromosomes.
Christoph Waltz winning was sort of a no brainer. The performance he gave us in Inglourious Basterds was nothing short of spectacular.
And for them to mention Patrick Swayze and not Farrah when they died like a month within eachother is asinine. Was she not as noteworthy? Come on, Academy Awards, get real.
I liked the dancing bit they brought out with each corresponding movie scores. It was different, and somewhat irrelevant, but definitely entertaining.
I loved the John Hughes montage. A lot of my favorite all-time movies were the fruits of John Hughes labors. They did an amazing job with bringing out the childhood/teenage stars that had the privilege to work with John. It was nice to see Macaulay...and to find out that he stopped growing after Home Alone 2.
Great blog, loved the input :)
I now leave you with probably my favorite quote of that night: "A true friend is someone who will get a cup of coffee for another. Would you go get me one, Ted?"
I won an Oscar pool that we did...jealous?
ReplyDeleteWe did 6 of the big categories..."Best picture, best supporting actor/actress, best lead actor/actress, and best director"
6/6 :]
People actually thought Avatar would win best picture?
I definitely thought The Hurt Locker had the heads up...with Inglourious Basterds following that. I originally thought The Hurt Locker was a documentry because of how real it was. It deserved to win...atleast out of the 10 we were given to choose from.
I voted for Sandra Bullock to win-because she's been a heavy favorite throughout award season for that role...but wanted Meryl to win all the way.
MoNique was awesome in Precious...but that's the only original thing I saw in that movie. It was a dirtied up Lifetime Original Movie....We've seen it done many times, except this time was backed up by Oprah.
I got a tingle when I saw NPH perform the opening number...what a surprise, had no clue he was making an apperance.
Loved the John Hughes tribute-he's my main 80's squeeze.
The dance number for Best Original Score was incrediable. Watched it two times. I kept thinking I saw Matt Baker up on stage.
I thought Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were hilarious. Great job.
Ben Stiller was excellent-people thought it was awkward, I think he's a comedy genius.
Did anyone notice under the "Horror Movie" sequence they showed Twilight...whatt?? Is that categorized as "Horror Movie"...maybe the Kristen Stewart aspect of it.
I love seeing Suzy Amis...aka Lizzy...aka old Rose's granddaughter in Titanic gettin cozy with James Cameron. I love a good Titanic shoutout. My heart will go on....
Overall the show was the good...I would have liked more surprise/shocking winners though. Everything was predictable.
I saw 8/10 Best Picture nominees. I can't say I have any desire to see Disrict 9 though, and I heard A Serious Man was just awful froma few sources. :}
Yooo mama
PS Andrew...Patrick Swayze was the first one they showed.
ReplyDeleteI know, silly. I said for them to mention Patrick Swayze and NOT Farrah is idiotic. I mean, she's still the number one best selling poster to this day. And she's in Man of the House. 'nuff said.
