Rumor has it that Columbia Pictures is officially having conversations regarding their third entry into Men In Black. Apparently they've shown strong interest in both Sacha Baron Cohen and Jemaine Clement. What an awkward pair. Clement is rumored to play a character named "Yaz" (a new agent who possibly controls birth??)...neither are locked yet. Etan Cohen, writer for Tropic Thunder and Idiocracy, allegedly wrote the screenplay. Shooting was originally scheduled to begin this spring.
Men In Black in 1997 grossed close to $600mil worldwide and it's squeal in 2002 took in $440mil.... which was so unmemorable to me. All I can remember from the second one is that my sister Shelly, cousin Alex, and I were in Atlanta, Michigan, sun-burnt, and we ate Reese's Pieces while repeatedly saying "El-i-ot. El-i-ot." like E.T. I believe the movie was lame.
Sometimes when a movie waits too long for a sequel, or a threequel in this case, it's just so incredibly uninteresting.
We'll see if any of this is actually true soon.

I wrote this baz up this morning. I would be wicked OK if Sacha Baron Cohen got run over by a public trolley so I don't want him anywhere near this. "Yaz" (like Daz :D) is a shitty name fa shau. I don't know though. If Will Smith and Tommy Lee come back, PLUS Josh Brolin, I might just have to give it a shot. Lots of "az" in this comment.
ReplyDeleteI loved Jemaine in Flight of the Conchords so it would be interesting seeing him take on a different role...though I do agree him and borat would make a strange pair.
ReplyDeleteI loved the original but unfortunately the second fell short; quite forgettable. I really don't remember much at all from the sequel, and I can quote the first like it's my job. You would think that after that kind of miss they would just move on and be thankful for what success they achieved.
I'm not too keen on the idea of them reviving this franchise, especially after it's been so long. Also think it doesn't help their cause at all that they're bringing in a different cast. Just let it go. Tommy and Will declined this project for a reason guys.
did you write it for Cinemablend?? I'll have to cheeeccck it out. LOL DAZ! What a whore.
ReplyDeleteI loathe Sacha Baron Cohen. Never found him funny at all. he's a total hot carl. brutal.
Andrew--It's definitely going to be an abortion. This isn't the first nor the last time they do something stupid like this. Let it goes guy is riiiight.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I don't remember MIB II and now I'm wondering if I ever actually bothered to see it. Sacha Baron Cohen is the worst. I wont see anything with him in it. Probably ever.
